The Spirits of Cairn imagines an afterworld where children who have died young may end up. The young protagonist mourns the numerous heads resting on the ground in the manner of a child building piles of stones (cairns) on a river bank. This world that people imagine as they mourn their dead differs depending on religion and ethnicity, but in its core, it shares common ancient archetypes.
