For a decade starting in 1979, around 20,000 people from Mozambique were sent as laborers to East Germany as part of its national policy. When forced to return home after Germany’s unification, they were berated as “mad Germans.” This graphic novel portrays three fictional people based on stories the author heard from individuals involved. What did these young people see and feel in Europe? A penetrating look into the heart of the immigration issue.
